Wednesday 9th May- Outfit # 41

Rain rain go AWAY!!!! very average looking day today, good homework weather though I suppose. Not a very flattering photo haha. Cardi from an op shop like 8 years ago, dress from Tempt, tights from Kmart, Chuck Taylors from outfit 18, pack back in outfit 1. Going in a new direction with my project now, thinking of doing garment specific designs where it looks like the garment has lots of layers, this is to show you cant wear all your clothes at once and also that our clothing consumes us.

Tuesday 8th May- Outfit # 39 & 40

Bit of a bling day with all the sequins! Saw I bit of sun which was nice. Did homework for most of the day and then went to another comedy show at night, hence the change of outfit. Yellow and black top from Barkins in Melbourne, skirt from Farmers, heels from Glassons also from outfit 7. Night outfit, dress from Farmers quite a few years ago, shoes a gift also from outfit 4, bag from second-hand store also from outfit 20.

Monday 7th May- Outfit # 37 & 38

Uni this morning, thought it was going to be another lovely day and then the cold sneeked up again. Got this sweet jersey from the second-hand shop called Round-about in Napier, love the glittery maori designs, wedges from outfit 19, skirt from an op shop in the bay along with bag from outfit 26, necklace and earrings from the Sally's in Wellington, singlet from Melbounre about a year ago. My flatmate Kayla's 22 today, so we all going out for cocktails and dinner, so a change of attire was needed. Jumpsuit from Melbounre a couple years ago along with heels, also in outfit 12, belt vintage stolen from mum, earrings from 123 plus haha.

Sunday 6th May- Outfit # 36

Beautiful day today! Absolutely gorgeous! Reece and I went on the Kapiti Island tour this morning which was really cool! Saw lots of native birds and was nice to get back into nature after always being suck in the city and busy with Uni. Obviously didn't wear this outfit whilst hiking around the island, but I wore sports gear, so I'm just going to count that as my exercise for the day. Changed into this outfit when we got back. Wedges from outfit 13, skirt is just one I made from cutting the legs of some jeans that I got from an op shop like 8 years ago in Gisborne, t-shirt an over-sized one from an op shop in the Bay, jewelry from random places. Don't think well get many more many nice days like this, so thats why I thought I better take advantage and wear some summer gears.

Saturday 5th May- Outfit # 35

Cold again Saturday, spent most of the day at Uni trying to get out of this creative runt I'm in, slowly working my way out. Boots from outfit 1, dress from Valley Girl a couple years ago, long sleeve tee from Kmart, love this poncho! got it from Save Mart in Napier, its reversible and has glitter and pom poms! What more could a girl ask for?!

Friday 4th May- Outfit # 33 & 34

Sorry for late posts again, been a busy weekend. Crazy weather on friday, it didn't know if it wanted to be hot or cold. So had to change my outfit a couple of times before I left the house and ended with this ensemble. Sweatshirt from Melbourne a few years ago, same with jeans, t-shirt from Fusion in Wellington, clogs from outfit 21. Went to Reece's for a few drinks that night so got changed. Dress from Melbourne a year or so ago, tights from Supre, shoes from outfit 15, bag from an op shop in Hawkes Bay.

Thursday 3rd May- Outfit # 32

Another average cold day! Just had a bit of fun with the flat playing charades. Gym, no tan, and probably should do some laundry. And yes I did, I wore tights as pants all day! Defiantly a comfortable outfit! Had a few layers on to fight the chill. Kathmandu puffer, Ketch sweatshirt from Hawkes Bay, Skins tights, sneakers from outfit 16.

Wednesday 2nd May- Outfit # 31

Sorry for late upload. Very average weather lately! Trying to keep warm, but theres an icey chill about. Jacket from Dotti last year, Dress from Melbourne a few years ago, shoes from outfit 17.

Tuesday 1st May- Outfit # 30

Terrible windy and wet! Sent most of the day doing homework and snuggled up inside. Went to see David O Doherty at the Downstage theatre for the comedy festival and he was hilarious! Dress from Dotti mid last year, belt from an op shop in Hawkes Bay a few years ago, boots from outfit 24. A bit stuck with my project now, one of my lecturers said to maybe reconsider the whole up-cycling thing, so going to back track and see what I can push further.

Monday 30th April- Outfit # 29

pretty nice day here in Wellington today! Had uni and then hung with my mum as she heads back to Hawkes Bay tomorrow. Shoes as seen in outfit 2, jersey from Tempt last year I think, bag from outfit 8, skirt from an op shop in Napier, watch a gift, and top from a random shop in Melbourne. Knees playing up from my running, so these shoes probably aren't the most practical to wear today. May have to give the high heels a break this week, but will see how I go.

Sunday 29th April- Outfit # 28

Windy as this morning, but turning into a beautiful day I think. Just had a nice breakfast at the Greasy Spoon with mum and her partner. Now back in to the homework grind! Shoes from outfit 8, and bag from outfit 10. Dress from Wildpair a few years ago, denim jacket from postie plus I think haha. Love these wedges because there so stable and comfy, don't have to worry to much about breaking your ankle.

Saturday 28th April- Outfit # 27

Lazy Saturday, just chilled at home all day and tried to do a bit of homework. A lot of procrastination when down unfortunately. Cardi from Glassons, Nike t-shirt, Greys from The Warehouse, Slippers from Kmart (I know I said I wasn't going to include slippers, but they were my footwear for the day). Hopefully a more productive day tomorrow, and a bit of sun would be nice. Started to pick apart some of my clothes today, taking a lot longer then I thought though as Im trying to keep as much thread as I can in tacked. Hopefully will make some cool textiles tomorrow with all the pieces.

Friday 27th April- Outfit # 26

Wellington was living up to its windy name today. poncho I made last year out of fabric from and op shop, I love it, its so bright, warm and comfy. Dress mum got for me, High heels from outfit 20, belt from op shop along with bag, can't remember where I got the ring. Heels were all good to wear today because I drove to uni because of the crappy weather, but think they may have really started to hurt if I walked. Going to start pulling apart some of my clothes tonight (ones that I don't particularly care for), and use them to try make some new textiles. Was thinking I might try apply the techniques I learnt last year in fashion textiles, doing things like embroidery, quilting, smocking, knitting, weaving and applique to give the materials a new lease on life and hopefully make them look really trendy. Will show you what I come up with over the next week or so.

Thursday 26th April- Outfit # 25

Finished my first round of all my shoes yesterday (not going to count my slippers), so starting round 2 today. Very matchy match, Dress of ASOS, Glassons cardi, shoes from outfit 10, earrings a gift. Have used this handbag before in outfit 4 as well, but I think I'm going to use ones that work for practicality, no use taking a huge beach bag to uni if I've only got a couple small things. My project is mostly based around clothes, not accessories anyway. These shoes were killer today, my little pinky toes took the brunt of it, unsure if I even want to wear them again. Why do I even have them? There more of a show piece for my wardrobe, there pretty obscene really.

Wednesday 25th April- Outfit # 24

Pretty windy in Welly yesterday, but not to cold. Dress from the Sally's which I altered a little bit, boots from Barkers in Melbourne and little purse from an ethnic kind of shop. If you feel like you really need a new outfit, how bout going to an Op shop, finding something you think has potential and giving it a few alterations and a new lease on life. This way your helping out a charity, not buying into the mass produced and making more clothing to be be thrown away in a few more months, and you get a new outfit on the cheap. This year Im going to try not buy any cheap mass produced clothing. I will either go op shopping, make my own clothes, or save up and buy good quality stuff that I can keep for a long time. Each thing I buy I will really think how long I will wear it for, and if I can up-cycle it later to make a new garment that I would like to wear. Even looking in your own wardrobe could get you a totally new outfit, think about mixing things together and altering them, taking a part of one you like and adding it to another. It's always fun to get crafty and then you will have a one off piece totally tailored to your own style.

Tuesday 24th April- Outfit # 23

Went to the gym for the first time this year this morning, err what a wake up call, my muscles defiantly need a bit of work. Disgusting turquoise velvet sweatshirt from some random store at Philip Island, Brooks shorts I've had for years, Nike sneakers, Back pack from Victoria Market in Melbourne. Very practical today, was walking past a girl from Uni down the hill to get on Tasman Street, she looked like she was struggling to walk down the semi steep hill in her heeled boots, while in my sneakers it was a breeze. She may have looked nice, but some of the things we wear can be a real hassle to do all our everyday activities, sneakers seem to be a good all rounder, if your not going to a formal event of course. And back packs are always handy!

Monday 23rd April- Outfit # 22

Looking a bit like Im going to join the army today. Top and shorts from Kmart, Jacket from Tempt a few years ago, shoes from Hannah's. Went to The Salvation Army today and asked about what they do with the clothes that are donated that aren't up to standards to sell in store, they said they send it away to poor countries and that nothing is really ever thrown away. I think I may find it hard to find an Op shop that actually throws the unwanted good in the rubbish, as they all properly do a similar thing as The Salvation Army. Never the less I will keep going to other second hand clothing stores and ask them if they would like to donate their unwanted stock to me for my project, so I can up-cycle them into new fashionable garments.

Sunday 22nd April- Outfit # 21

Did the 10km Moonshine run today in Upper Hutt with my flatmate Josie. So pretty tired afterwards and didn't really try to hard with my outfit today. Dress from Melbourne a couple years ago, orange clogs from a garage sale, I couldn't resist them. Got lunch and ate it at Island bay beach with Reece, so we decided to have a little walk along the rocks, these shoes were totally not ideal and Reece spent most of the time trying to make sure I wasn't going to fall over and crack my head open. Its quite hard to figure out your outfit everyday when you don't always know what you'll be getting up to. Very annoying not being able to change as I want to get as many days out of my clothes as I can, also sometimes its a bit chilly but I don't want to wear any of my sweatshirts if its an alright day as I may need them when it starts to get cooler.

Saturday 21st April- Outfit # 20

Drove back to Wellington today after a nice lunch for Oma's birthday. Nice and sunny in the Bay, feeling a little worse for wear though. Dress off ASOS, belt and bag from an op shop, shoes from Toni Bianco Outlet store. Can feel the stress creeping back now were in Wellington, uni again on Monday.

BUNGY!!!

Was so scared, stood on the platform for a good 5 minutes before I plucked up the courage to jump, while Reece managed to do his straight away.

Friday 20th April- Outfit # 18 & 19

Me and Reece did a bungy on Friday morning, and then were lucky enough to have a friend working there and gave us a free go on the Extreme swing too! Both were seriously scary but so awesome! photo taken at the end of the day as you can properly tell, had a great time in Taupo though. Sweatshirt and singlet from random Melbourne shops, cords from Glassons, lemon Chuck Taylors, My cool cat 2 Stroke.
Had a friends 21st to go to on Friday night, so another outfit gone. Dress from a op shop, necklace from Tempt ages ago, wedges Novo from Melbourne.

Thursday 19th April- Outfit # 17

Another late set of posts sorry, been a nice busy end to the week. Went up to Taupo on Thursday with my boyfriend Reece. Keeping it casual for the trip up, cords from Glassons last winter, leopard sheer top from Cotton On, thin black cardi, boots from No.1 a while ago, there getting on a bit. Ended up being nice and hot when we got up there, so this outfit didn't really work for both cities.

18.4.12

Hawkes Bay

Awesome view of the Bay yesterday from the top of The Sugar Loaf in Taradale. This is what New Zealand looks like for all you international viewers.

Wednesday 18th April- Outfit # 16

Think it's going to be another lovely day! Being a bit of a sporty spice, going to go for a walk and then chill at home and catch up on some more work. Canterbury shorts, Nike sneakers, sweatshirt from Kmart.

Tuesday 17th April- Outfit # 15

Another beautiful day, went for a walk up The Sugar Loaf and then visited both sets of grandparents which is always nice! Dress I made at Uni last year for Digital Design, shoes from Rubi, Bracelet by Dinosaur Designs from dad a few years ago.

Monday 16th April- Outfit # 14

Sorry for the late pictures, have been relaxing, visiting friends and family and trying to catch up on a bit of homework in the Bay. But finally catching up on blog today. It's been great weather up here, so been able to wear some of my summer clothes before going back to windy Wellington. Dress and shoes from Kmart, watch a gift and don't know where I got the ring from, it's a fake of course haha. It's good not having to walk to much in the Bay so these high heels didn't kill me to much.

15.4.12

Sunday 15th April- Outfit # 13

Beautiful weather in the Bay today. Did the Spec Savers 10km run this morning, but have decided not to include my running gear unless I wear it as my days outfit, as I am trying to run most days and being able to wear the appropriate gear is a practical need. Dress from Farmers, shoes No.1, jewelry from random places. Hopefully the suns keep shining while I'm up here for the rest of the time :)

14.4.12

Saturday 14th April- Outfit # 12

Bit of a weird traveling outfit, but thought it'd be smart to get a pair of high heels out of the way while sitting in the car for a few hours. Top from Forever New a couple years ago, some old comfy pants and heels from Melbourne a while ago. Jacket from Farmers probably about 4 years old. Handbag I made in 7th form textiles class.
Packed in a little bit of a hurry and I a bit more then over compensated for my week away in the bay. Packed 11 pairs of shoes, 10 dresses, 3 jackets, 1 poncho, 2 cardi's, 3 pairs of pants, 4 sweatshirts, 4 skirts, 9 tops, 3 pair's of shorts, 2 pairs of running tights, 1 nice warm hat, 5 belts, 1 scarf, 1 pair of stockings and 3 pairs of leggings, on top of the outfit I am wearing. Whoops! A bit ridiculous! I didn't even pack this much when I went away for 2 months. Oh well, better safe then sorry I guess haha.

13.4.12

Friday 13th April- Outfit # 11

Sun tried to come out, but didn't quite make it. Dress a bargain for Valley Girl awhile ago. Bag my friend found, belt from somewhere in Melbourne but I can't remember what shop. Wooden heels, yea I may be half dutch but these defiantly aren't comfortable at all. Can't wait to get through all my heels and being able to just wear flats for a couple days. Sure heels may be pretty and nice to wear on the odd occasion, but now they are just really annoying, not practical for everyday activities at all! Going to Hawkes Bay tomorrow for a week, so have to be quite tactical with my packing, especially because I have know idea what the weathers going to be like or what I'll be doing.

12.4.12

Thursday 12th April- Outfit # 10

Another crappy day in Wellington today, lots of rain so tried to rug up a bit. My tartan poncho I got from a cute second hand store about 5 years ago is always a good choice for chilly days, paired with some jeans. Was surprised my feet didn't get destroyed by these shoes like they normally do, ended up being a really comfy outfit.
Spoke to one of my lecturers today about where Im going to take my project next. Was thinking about asking some op shops for the clothes that throw away from what is donated, and maybe up-cycling them into new garments. My lecturer mentioned even picking some of my own clothes that Im willing to sacrifice, that I don't really wear because maybe they are to absurd and using them to up-cycle, as this would tie into the whole thing of exploring my own wardrobe.

11.4.12

I thought I'd put up a bit of the studio work I have been doing for my 4th year project to show how I am using the exploration of my wardrobe to try bring awareness about conspicuous consumption. This is a video I made from still's, putting one item in my wardrobe at a time and taking a picture. This is to show how when we consume we aren't filling some sort of void in our happiness, the only void were filling is the one in our wardrobe. No matter how much stuff is in your wardrobe, your life will still be the same.
Music: Red Cafe ft. Fabolous & Diddy "Money, Money, Money". I thought this song was appropriate as it shows how each new thing we put in our wardrobe is just more money spent. This song also makes me think of all the ways we are bombarded by society to think consuming is the normal and right thing to do. TV, advertisements, magazines, shops and in this case a Hip-hop artist all tell us to buy more things, spend your money and have the best, because that will make you happy and successful. We are raised to think that consuming excessively is fine, and I must say I'm still stuck in the trap. I may be writing this blog and trying to do all these things, but I still want to go out and get a new dress or a new pair of shoes, because I still think it'll make me happy, and that they would be nice to have. How am I going to make a strong and clear statement to really convince myself and others to change our consuming habits? Why do we do things when we know something about it isn't quite right.....

Wednesday 11th April- Outfit # 9

Another not so warm day. Just headed to Uni to do a bit of catch up work so didn't really try to get to creative with todays outfit. Just some plain stockings with a dress thats looks like a mermaid, over sized hoodie jacket, perfect hood for when the rain started to come down. Some plain black buckle up flats that are camouflaged against my stockings. Nice and comfy and warm, but not to overly boring. Thumbs up for practicality today. Need to learn some new things to do with my hair though.
Last night I also thought it was a good idea to sort out a bit of a system so I know what clothes I've already worn, as it's only been a week and I'm already getting kind of confused. I divided all my drawers and wardrobe into 2 sides, one side for worn and the other for un-worn, easy-peezy. I am also putting all the shoes I've worn in a giant container so they don't get muddled either.

10.4.12

Tuesday 10th April- Outfit # 8

Where'd the sun go? Hitting up the faux fur vest to keep warm. Tights from Kmart and good ole No.1 Shoe's. Jewelry gifts. Sweet fur handbag from an op shop. Feeling like a bit of a dork walking round in high heels all day, but lucky these wedges are pretty comfy. Funny doing this mission I'm feeling more materialistic then I did before, having to worry about what I'm wearing everyday, not being able to chuck anything on as I may have worn it already, and wearing high heels around doing my everyday tasks seems a bit silly. But it proves my point I guess, we defiantly all have items that aren't practical and really don't need.

9.4.12

Monday 9th April- Outfit # 7

Unfortunately the majority of my 25 pairs of shoes are high heels, so thought I'd better start getting through them. Got a few funny looks wearing these mustard platforms at the supermarket today. I always get asked why I wear high heels when I'm already pretty tall, it's not about the height, I just love the look of high heels, there just so much sexier and feminine then flats. But am wishing I did have more practical shoes in my wardrobe, as my high heels are usually only worn on a Friday or Saturday night. Top and skirt from Melbourne a few years ago. Purse from an op shop. Earrings a gift, couldn't resist wearing the sexy things.

Sunday 8th April- Outfit #6

Competing with the sun to be the brightest on the beautiful Easter Sunday! Full of chocolate and off to the beach. Op shop lime green sweater that I've hardly worn, pink Kmart singlet being worn for the first time, Mink Pink denim skirt. Flip-flops and accessories accumulated over time from random places. It's quite cool doing this mission and wearing all these things I normally don't, but don't have the heart to get rid of either. Have a look through your drawers and play around with wearing the garments that you always keep hidden!

Saturday 7th April- Outfit #5

Bit of a chilled out number to enjoy the sun in. Dress from Tempt. Jewelry all gifts. Rubi shoe's. Can't wait to run out of clothes so I can wear this dress and my other favorites again. Makes me think why do I have half of my clothes if I'm not even that keen to wear them.

Friday 6th April- Outfit #4

Not feeling to adventurous on this beautiful sunny Good Friday. Keeping it pretty simple with a black satin top and black velvet skirt both from some op shops. Silver sandals were a present and necklace from Cole's in Melbourne funnily enough. Stud handbag no brand.

Thursday 5th April- Outfit #3

The rain gone and feeling a little fruity on Thursday! Some crazy tights from a small stall at a mall, matching blue op shop earrings and yellow Rubi sandals. Attempted to tone down a little with a black dress and black op shop blazer. Shoulder bag from Kmart.

Wednesday 4th April- Outfit #2

Rain on Wednesday! Rugged up in some leopard print stocking's that I hadn't worn for years, paired with my Royal Blue platforms for a bit of colour! Vintage shoulder bag that I stole out of my mum's wardrobe a while back. Sparkly Op Shop top and a nice warm black Federation coat to help fight off the cold!

Tuesday 3rd April- Outfit # 1

Finally getting my pictures up after a nice chilled out Easter weekend. My first outfit to start my mission is a dress that I haven't worn before that I got a few months ago in Melbourne, played about with a few accessories and thought I'd whip out the classic replica Louis Vuitton back pack.
